Enter the marathon and experience the longest course of the day. The event starts from the picturesque Little River Domain and takes you through the old Train Station at Little River before heading out of the township and on to the flat packed gravel of the Rail Trail.
Once you leave the road and hit the trail, you get to enjoy the water-side track as you pass alongside Lake Forsyth. You will pass under trees and enjoy the wildlife before heading out in the open as the Rail Trail heads across country. Passing the access road to Birdlings Flat, you then head towards the edges of Lake Ellesmere. This section sees you crossing foot bridges, experiencing the diverse birdlife, and enjoying views of the surrounding wetlands and farmland.
As you come into Motukarara you will pass the train station and then head onto sealed road for a section. This part of the Rail Trail is now away from the water and takes you alongside the rich soils of Selwyn and the busy farms that make up this part of the district. You will run alongside the water as you head along River Road, a stunning section of country lane before you pop out near the Lincoln Wetlands.
The final section of the marathon course is within the Lincoln Village. You get to explore around the Lincoln Wetlands, a popular walking area in the district, as well as weaving your way through the Liffey walkways, underneath trees and alongside fresh springs. You then come out right in the middle of the Lincoln Village and take the final stretch to the Finish Line at the Lincoln Domain.
The marathon is fast and flat, with nice variations throughout. You are spoilt for scenery the entire course, experiencing the history of the district as you make your way along 42km of the Little River Rail Trail.
The marathon is a great first time trail marathon, due to it's terrain and support along the way. It is also a great course for those wanting a fast run with stunning scenery.
Competitors are encouraged to book a bus to the start line in Little River. Buses will be departing Lincoln Domain and taking competitors to Little River, in time for the Race Briefing.
If you choose to be dropped off by vehicle, there is limited parking available.
